First Chance to Win a Copy of So Over It

4 June 2010

Okay, so a few days ago, I had a bud of a story idea. It’s about … well, I don’t really know yet. It takes place during the summer. And the main character, Sabrina, works at the pool. She wants to be a writer, and she has a crush on a guy who works in a bookstore, whose mom is a force in publishing. That’s what I’ve got so far.

I told this to my husband and he was like, “Wow, that’s … riveting, honey. Really.”

I know, I know. I’m still figuring out that whole plot thing for this book.

Anyway. Sabrina’s guy needs a name.

I put out a request on Facebook and Twitter for suggestions, and let me just say wow. I was totally overwhelmed by the response. I’ve narrowed it down to four and you get to vote on which one you like best. Now, you’re still allowed to suggest an alternate name but if you do that, please also tell me which of the finalists you like best.

On Monday, I’ll draw a name and that person will win a free, signed copy of So Over It. Which I’m expecting to show up on my doorstep any day now—yay!

If you don’t win (and you’re a teenager), you can still receive a free copy of So Over It in exchange for some minor promotion. And by minor, I mean something as easy as writing up a 25 word Facebook status about the book. For more details, click here.

And regardless of age, you can also register to win a free copy of So Over It and all future releases by signing up to receive my newsletter, which comes out quarterly(ish).

Okay, I think that’s it.

The four names you’re voting on are:

Landon

Tanner

Lucas

Alden

For those who were a part of the original conversation on Facebook and Twitter, you might be thinking, “Um, nobody suggested Alden…” Yeah, that’s true. I’m throwing it in there. The thought process was this—Alden is the last name of the family in the Boxcar Children, the first book series our guy’s mom fell in love with. So she named her son after them.

Alright – vote away! And don’t worry about leaving me your e-mail address in the text since the site demands you leave it anyway.

(Sorry, only US residents are eligible to win.)

See now, I was going to go for “Tanner” until you threw in reasoning behind “Alden.” I’m all about reasoning, so my vote’s for “Alden.”

Definitely Alden. My alternate would be Seth.

You know where I stand…Tanner!

Landon

My friend Dave Krug suggested this on Facebook and it was too funny not to put on here: “Dave Krug” — he could be the sexy, intelligent guy that women love and men wish they could be. Sort of a mixture of George Clooney, Brad Pitt,Harry Connick Jr and Sawyer from “Lost.”

I am definitely going with Lucas…I used that in one of my books, and it’s working out really well.

Paul is another name I just thought of. And Rohan.

Out of these names.. I like Alden. Or Lucas.

I think your books are amazing. I picked them up and read them both in two days. These novels keep me wanting more, and I really hope Conner and Skylar get back together. I don’t really like Eli at all. lol. I’m actually in the midst of editing a book I’m writing, hopefully to be published. My vote is Tanner.

Sabrina and Tanner sounds great!

I would say Paul but my second choice would be Tanner!!

Josiah.. Anthony.. sorry! I just keep coming across new names :D …Noah. Ryan. Tyler. Nick… okay, I’ll be going now. Sorry :P

My vote is for Lucas because when you here the name Lucas you don’t know what kind of guy he is it’s one of those names you can play around with and no matter what his name will fit him perfectly. I know names are already chosen but it was crazy i was already thinking seth would be a good name before i even read karen’s post. p.s. if you choose Lucas which i don’t know why but that sounds like an awesome name i think he would be a person with blonde hair. idk why, but thats just the picture of Lucas that pops u in my head right now. I haven’t read any of your books yet but this popped up on face book and i can’t wait to read your books, wish you the best and thanks for letting us be part of your book . And also i think it would be cool if she always wrote in purple pen or something =) just brainstorming for you,

Lucas! I so love that name =) I have a question. Is “So Over It” the last book in The Reinvention of Skylar Hoyt Series? I hope not! I finished reading it last night and it was amazing, but you can let it end like that =)

I’m naming my daughter Mary Alden and I can’t for the life of me remember where I heard the name Alden! So I started googling the name to see if I saw it in a book. My research has led me here. Besides the Boxcar Children name, where does the name come from? I really want to be able to tell my daughter how I named her besides just loving the name.

Welcome, Sarah! What a cool name for your daughter :)

The only place I remember hearing it before was the Boxcar Children books. My baby name book says it’s English and means “old, wise friend.” Babynames.com on the other hand says it means half-Danish.

And just loving the name seems like a good enough reason to me!
